Kokonoe, Takeda, and Bungo-Ono are home to such tourist attractions as Yamanami Highway, Kokonoe Dream Suspension Bridge, Komatsu Jigoku, Ryumon Onsen, Sujiyu Onsen, Kyukenkei Onsen, Hosenji Onsen, Kujyu Flower Park, Nagayu Onsen and Ramune Onsen Kan, and Harajiri Waterfall.
Takeda is located in the southwest of Oita Prefecture and was originally a castle town of the Oka clan. Visitors can enjoy the atmospheric castle town by participating in the month-long "Oka Castle Hina Festival" or strolling along the samurai residence street.
The Kujyu mountain range, designated as Aso-Kujyu National Park, straddles Takeda and is a popular area where visitors can enjoy wonderful scenery in all four seasons. Surrounded by lush green mountains, Kujyu Hana Koen (Kujyu Flower Park) boasts colorful flowers blooming all around. In addition to the scenery, there are also stores that offer gelato, bread, and cakes made with local ingredients. In addition, the historic Nagayu Hot Springs are said to contain carbon dioxide gas and improve blood circulation.
The suspension bridge, 390 meters long and 173 meters high from the riverbed, spans the Naruko River Valley at an elevation of 777 meters and is the tallest suspension bridge in Japan for human beings only.
